Prices for dug trees vary from around $15 - $125 depending on how big, how full, and how nicely shaped the tree is, and in the case of Blue Spruce, the more blue the tree is, the higher the price. Check back for photos and prices after we dig them.

We also specialize in trees for landscape use along property lines, for use in fencerows and privacy hedges. We can usually give you a very good price on large numbers of trees that are not quite up to Christmas tree quality, but still good healthy trees for this purpose, so contact us if you are looking for a bunch of trees to produce a bit of privacy from your nosey neighbors!

Evergreen Trees up to 9'- 16'⁺ ask about these larger sizes

PINES:

Pines do well all over Virginia, preferring loamy soil over red clay. Fast Growing

WHITE PINE:
Long soft green needles.

December, 2006- We have a bunch of real nice White pines you can choose and cut for Christmas trees, but if you're looking for bigger trees for landscape use or for a privacy hedge, we have some we can dig about 12'+ tall, semi sheared so they are not as symmetrical as a Christmas tree, but nice and full so they make great landscape focal points, or outstanding fencerow privacy hedges.

Cut White Pine trees up to 9'+ $35 (and quite a lot taller if you like a natural, open look to them)

SCOTCH PINE:

December, 2006- We have a pretty good supply of Scotch Pines you can choose and cut. A very popular Cut Christmas tree since it holds it's needles better than Spruce, and is more rigid than White Pine. Scotch Pine Christmas trees hold their ornaments without the branches sagging quite as much as a White Pine would do.

SPRUCE:

Our Blue Spruce Christmas trees are very popular. 

Spruce do well all over Virginia, tolerating just about any reasonable soil conditions. They don't like having weeds growing up against them, nor do they tolerate being jammed too close to other plants or else they will develop empty spots, whereas a Norway or white spruce will keep green branches despite being a little crowded.

BLUE "Colorado" SPRUCE:

Among the most beautiful Christmas trees found anywhere.  Most Blue Spruce are from seedlings, which have genetic color variations from bluer - greener.  Slow growing, they require extra years of labor, so cost a bit more.

NORWAY SPRUCE:

The hardiest spruce, indeed the toughest tree we grow, thriving even in hard red clay. Faster growing then Blue Spruce.

Short softer green needles, but you don't want to cut one of these too early or let it dry out because they tend to drop needles. Yet, we've been warning folks about this and selling them for many years now, and seldom ever gotten any complaints about needle drop.

WHITE SPRUCE:

My New Favorite kind of spruce tree, we have nice White Spruce trees dug for planting, 4' - 7'. I think these are nicer, fuller trees than Norway or Blue Spruce.

Short softer green needles. but they also drop their needles pretty bad when you cut them, so I don't recommend cutting them till after December 15.

FIRS:

Fir trees hold their needles extremely well after cutting. Your cut fir tree will probably still look fresh till March!

They say Fir Trees prefer high altitude...

Well, yes, but we have some nice ones growing here. Remember ALL TREES WE SELL WERE GROWN RIGHT HERE AT HICKORY HILL NURSERY in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.

I don't know how well Fir Trees would do in hotter dryer summers on the Charlottesville/Richmond side of the Blue Ridge. Firs don't like extremely hot and dry, but keeping it watered will help avoid heat / drought related stress, as would providing a little shade and wind break. They prefer loamy soil over heavy clay, and be sure not to let them dry out during the hot dry summer if you are growing them.

Don't grow very well here since they like higher altitude.

Larger Trees-

White Pine, Austrian Pine, &  Scotch Pine, unsheared, almost 16', if you don't mind them being unsheared with a loose natural appearance, they are the same price, when sold as cut Christmas trees, as regular sheared Christmas trees.
